I came to Ayabe dreaming of my first real over-distance trail race. The challenge was huge: mountains, climbing, descents, and a course far outside my comfort zone. What I got was a beautiful, painful, unforgettable day on the trails—and a hard lesson about health, pride, and knowing when to stop.
